A ritual duel.
A Ritual Duel (たいまん Taiman?) is a traditional battle between Ayashimon.
Overview[]
— The sacred words of the ritual duel |
A ritual duel is initiated whenever an Ayashimon is prepared to do battle with an opponent, regardless if the opponent is not another Ayashimon. Unlike a normal duel, the ring of the ritual duel is made up of a barrier that is formed from the sound of Tsuzumi Drums being played by assisting Ayashimon. Once the ring is setup, an Ayashimon is permitted to put on their mask that releases their true form and power. Finally, the two opposing sides shout out the sacred words of the ritual duel and put their strength to the test in a one-on-one fight. Due to the sacredness of this duel, many perceive the ritual duel as a festival in the form of fighting.
When a challenge is made and settled with a ritual duel, the loser must uphold the wishes of the winner no matter what once the sacred words have been spoken. It is implied that such challenges is when an Ayashimon bets their loyalty, as Urara stated that the number of underlings Amamehagi has under his belt was a good indication as to how many times he had won in a ritual duel.

Trivia[]
- While traditional, the ritual duel does not seem to be a norm or a complete requirement every time an Ayashimon gets into a fight, as both Hashihime and Nyudo attacked Maruo in their yokai forms without uttering the sacred words or setting up a ring, with the former having done so only after their second round.
- Even without a ring a ritual duel may commence as long as the sacred words have been spoken.
